Meet Paul

Meet Paul

It has been more than forty years that Paul has been a loyal member of the staff at Handyman’s Hardware. It was early May in 1976 when Paul started at Handyman’s, Jimmy Carter was our president and Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen was in the top 10 of the pop charts. At 17 Paul, a senior at Sauk Rapids High School interviewed with Stan Severson the co-founder of Handyman’s Hardware. Stan offered Paul his first job with one condition, Paul’s shoulder length hair needed to be cut. Not a problem for Paul, he was ready to start his first job.
Handyman’s Hardware had just moved to its current spot at 604 East Saint Germain St. from a location just west of here. While finishing high school Paul worked part time, then while Paul went to the St. Cloud Vocational School, Paul moved to a full-time position and he has never looked back.
Over the years Paul has helped thousands of people find the parts they were seeking. One customer has always stuck in Paul’s head; it was a lady that came in and wanted a piece of glass cut. She wanted it 10” x 20”. It was not the size that stuck with Paul, it was her assertion that he cut it 20 inches the long way!
Paul says that he has made countless friendships with people he has met while working here. Paul gets a kick out of helping people find answers to their projects by drawing out their needs to come up with a solution.
Over the years Paul’s responsibilities have grown from the day to day interactions in the store to spending part of his time outside the store and serving our customers in schools and industry. In this role Paul keeps his customers stocked with the day to day items they need so they can spend more time doing their work without having to chase down supplies. Paul also brings his 40 years of experience to his customers in the field helping them find solutions fast so they can get back up and running.
